Delrin is the trade name for something else that is known as polyoxymethylene or POM. It is an engineering thermoplastic that is design to withstand being exposed to high temperatures. It is a favored thermoplastic because of its stiffness, stability, and low friction levels.
There are a number of properties that Delrin has that make it quite useful in a number of areas. It has a low rate of water absorption while being resistant to most chemicals, even the strongest ones. It is also resistant to hydrolysis by base. It is deemed as safe for human contact in terms of being used with food products.
